Clinton Initiative Tackles Mexico City’s Waste
The Clinton Climate Initiative, an organization founded by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, has announced a major new effort to reform waste management practices in Mexico City. This is perhaps the largest waste management project to date by a climate-change organization. The little information that is currently available indicates that the project intends to cap the current landfill and install a landfill gas collection system, while initiating a new waste management program based on recycling and composting. However, some news reports indicate that incinerators may also be under consideration. GAIA and its members have written to the Clinton Climate Initiative, seeking to play a positive role in this important project - steering it towards Zero Waste, and away from incineration.
